On the evening of October 15th 1972, a bright light accompanied by a loud explosion was witnessed near the El Tinajero farm. The next morning, Dr Arginiro Gonzales and his guest Juan Delgado, discovered that a cow had been killed by a falling stone, which had broken into 3 pieces upon impact. Valera is the first meteorite in history to have killed a living creature, and is documented by witnessed statements.
