Wabar
(Rub'al Khali, Saudi Arabia) IIIAB (iron)
Possibly fell 1863
This iron meteorite is reported to have fallen during a thunderstorm in 1863. Several craters have been associated with this fall, each partly filled with drifted sand and surrounded by abundant silica glass containing minute metallic globules of meteoric nickel-iron. Formed from melted sand during the high energy impact of the iron masses, these glasses cover much of the crater walls and indicate a relatively young age of the craters.
This meteorite is seldom available to private collectors...when it is offered, it's almost exclusively small, completely oxidised fragments.
