I lived in Sunderland for 3 years and i never visited the Great North Museum. Looks like a nice little display. I go up to Durham every now and again so will pencil that in for a visit next time. Thanks David :-)

Cheers

Hi Martin,

Yes, definitely worth a visit. The mineral collection is excellent and very well displayed. The meteorites, as often seems to be the case, aren't that easy to see, being rather dimly lit. I'm going to start taking a torch on my museum trips.... :)

Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is also on my list of places to visit - I believe they have a few meteorites on display.

If I'm in the area, I'd be trying to get to Scarborough's Rotunda Museum (terrible website, but reported to be a good museum). No meteorites that I know of, but an award winning educational geology display.

I should also mention, in passing, that it is Earth Science Week, with a number of events taking place.
