Bjurböle Main Mass Moved to a New Home

Postby David Entwistle » Thu Nov 27, 2014 7:22 am

There are a number of Finnish news reports showing the Bjurböle main mass taking a tram ride across Helsinki to its new home.

It appears to have moved from Helsinki University Museum, to University of Helsinki Kumpulan kampus. It got to travel in a dedicated tram, to minimize the risk of damage from vibration.

There's a web page showing the meteorites previously on display in Helsinki University Museum, including Bjurböle. They were displayed in a rather splendid glass cabinet - part of the "netti-mineraalikabinetti". You can access that web page here.

Meteorites, featured in their own video clip, include:

There's more about the history of the collection and the move to the new location (in Finnish) here. I believe it opens to the public, in the new location, in March 2015. Updates should be available here.
