Orion Re-entry Video

Postby David Entwistle » Mon Dec 22, 2014 1:05 am

Hi,

I'm sure many of you will have seen the NASA video showing the astronaut's view of re-entry of the Orion capsule. It's interesting to note the transition from laminar (smooth) flow, to turbulent flow, in the boundary layer, about 32 seconds in (00:09:46:22 before splashdown). I'm guessing the period of turbulent flow is responsible for generating the regmaglypts in those meteorites of a size sufficient to generate turbulent flow....
