The British and Irish Meteorite Society

I've just realized that today is the 46th anniversary of the meteorite fall at Sprucefield and Bovedy, Northern Ireland.

The fireball was seen all the way from Sussex through London, Doncaster and Yorkshire to Northern Ireland toward Belfast. It was moving from ESE to W NW very rapidly. There was a swishing noise and people reported explosions. The largest fragment of the meteorite weighing 7,400 g was found near the village of F ilrea, Londonderry County. Searches are being conducted.

One of the very few meteorite falls to have the sound captured on a tape recorder.

Interesting point; maybe just Bovedy and Chelyabinsk are the only 'audible' specimens
