First meteorite

Postby Kieron » Tue Jan 19, 2016 7:13 pm

Hi Folks,

Some recent posts from new collectors inspired me to share this picture of my first meteorite - a 14.5g piece of Canyon Diablo shrapnel. I bought it from a gem shop in Cromer in 2008. Almost certainly my cheapest purchase, but still a favourite. Anyone else?

Regards, Kieron

Mine was a rather minuscule 0.038g Barwell fragment from Ian Barrett. The fact that meteorites can fall anywhere, especially within the British Isles still
gives me goosebumps to this day. :D

Looks like you might get the award for 'Most Unusual First Meteorite', as well as 'Smallest First Meteorite'.

Happy Birthday, by the way!

Thanks Kieron,

*Takes a bow*

To be fair, I didn't think anything abnormal of my "gateway meteorite". As an individual (only 14yo at the time) swept in by the meteorite men-movement and with a broad interest in British Natural History, a bit of avid googling brought me and my Barwell together.

Thankfully though, my meteorites have been getting bigger as the collection has grown and my Barwell has a bigger brother now!

Cheers, Tom
