Suspected Meteorite Fall Morocco 2012 May 20 22:45 Local

Postby David Entwistle » Tue Sep 11, 2012 5:40 pm

There are a couple of news reports and a blog entry describing the investigation and search for a meteorite believed to have fallen on the 20th May 2012, in Morocco.

Google translation of the start of the blog entry:

Professor Abderrahman IBHI, Moroccan expert, laboratory manager geoheritage and geomaterials and president of the astronomy club at the University Ibn Zuhr Agadir, confirmed that a meteorite fell Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 22:45 in Aousserd area near the town of Eddakhla Moroccan Sahara. Since that date, the search for meteorite fragments that began and continued until the end of August when a local resident found a fragment of 300 grams.

Possibly not a new story, but as I understand it, they have just recovered a 300g fragment.
