Happy new year to all BIMS members, may fresh falls be frequent in your vicinity!

Image
The new image of the month is now up. This month we have a perfectly etched 47g slice of Seymchan. Although classified as a pallasite, this piece shows the iron only portion of the find. Thanks to regular contributor Kieron Heard for the image. Click here to view the image in the Gallery or here for our archive of all previous "Image of the Month" images.

Yes, indeed. Happy New Year to one and all!

The Seymchan was from Mike Miller (of course), so guaranteed to be a nice piece. I am not sure I will be submitting any more pictures for a while - I would much rather see British and Irish specimens on the BIMS website (and I have shown you all of mine). Come on Folks, get your cameras out!

All the best, Kieron

Happy New Year all--here's hoping for a fall we can chase somewhere close to home soon.

Yes Happy new year to everyone....shame the Tata Mars didn't deviate our way eh? Could be a good year..

I've tracked down the owners of some fields where some of the larger Barwell pieces were found and am hoping to get permissions to search this year...hopeful anyway...will let you all know if and when and perhaps we can have a mass hunt one weekend...would be fun. ;)

It should be noted that Kieron's Seymchan is one that shows a rarer example of the widmanstatten pattern distorted and curved....not sure if by impact on Earth or before that....?

Cheers,

Graham

Hi Graham,

A group hunt sounds great - you know you can count me in! I assume that's not the elusive Mr Pegg you are talking about?

Regards, Kieron

I agree, a group hunt would be cool. On that note how many of you own a metal detector? Any particular make/model that comes recommended?

Cheers

Martin

I'm up for a weekend of hunting Barwell. No metal detector, but I have a spade!

I'd like to join the group hunt too. I also have no metal detector.

Matt.
