Origins:
The British and Irish Meteorite Society was formed in 2004 by a group of like-minded individuals who wanted to provide a meteorite collecting focus in the UK.
We exist to bring together UK collectors, researchers and anyone with an interest in Meteorites to share their passion for rocks from space. Members keep in regular contact via a Yahoo Mailing group/list.
Most members also give talks, exhibitions, and assist with education on the subject.
Meteorites allow us to touch, study and be inspired by far off worlds that humans can only dream of visiting.

Society Aims:
To further and promote the interests of meteorite collecting and study in the UK and Ireland. To bring together collectors for the purposes of exchanging information and interest on Meteoritics. To establish a network of collectors with knowledge of meteorites, to assist in the location & recovery of new falls and finds.
Society Rules:
Every member shall do his or her best to promote local or national interest in meteorites whenever possible. No member shall bring the organization into disrepute. Acceptance of Membership and continued membership is at the sole discretion of the committee. All members will conduct any search activities in a responsible manner, and where possible make new finds available for research.
