Lance
(Vendome, Loir-et-Cher, France) CO3.4 (stone)
Fell 23rd July 1872
After the appearance of a bright evening fireball and loud detonations, a shower of stones fell, of which six were recovered. Lance is a difficult meteorite to acquire for private collections - a rare European witnessed fall and a CO3.4 at that! There doesn't seem to be much outside of the museums, and it frequently appears on collectors' wants-lists. Excluding any possible new desert finds that may have been discovered since publication, Lance is one of only two CO3.4's listed in the new Catalogue of Meteorites, the other being Antarctic find, Alan Hills 77029.
